The 18th EatDrinkTalk podcast is a full plate of news and interesting info from Steve and Rick. First up, Steve’s got the skinny on Bar Vetti, the planned pizza restaurant in the 800 Building. It’s the latest project from Ryan Rogers, the chef responsible for Royals Hot Chicken and Feast BBQ in NuLu. Plus, there’s talk about some of the news from the EatDrinkTalk.net web site — another potential pizza chain, the new twist on the Louisville Brewfest and a $100 a plate beer dinner, all coming up in September.
In the spirit of talking spirits, Steve interviews Sean Thibodeaux, one of the city’s finest bartenders, about a favorite topic for us all – cocktails and bourbon culture. Sean is the guy you’ll see behind the bar at Volare. And since we’re talking bourbon, Rick sat down with Lisa Higgins to discuss the bourbon tourist boom and how it’s helped propel Mint Julep Tours to 40 percent annual growth. MJT is opening a new headquarters on Mellwood Avenue, a gorgeous property that will house offices, tour buses and a space for events.
Higgins’ company is a sponsor of and participant in the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, which takes place next week in Bardstown. We will certainly be participating in a flurry of bourbon-related events next week.
In our favorites segment, Steve raves about celebrating a birthday meal at Chuy’s. Rick opted for the made-to-order fast casual pizza at the newest such spot in town, MOD Pizza in Hikes Point. And you’ll learn a little about cachaca, the famed Brazilian rum Steve enjoyed in a recent tasting, while Rick talks about creating a bourbon and lemonade combination at home.
